“If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”

This week a man I greatly admire, and often quote (despite being a member of my nemesis baseball team) passed away.

Yogi Berra was a man who was very skilled in his passions of both baseball and wit.

One of the many lines I regularly quote from Yogi is “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.” Which seems silly, but ultimately that is what TOP Organizing helps with through organization. We create the time and space for families and individuals to discover their own passions. This in turns allows them to start dreaming up where exactly it is they want to end up.

Think about it: When I was 10 years old I was already talking about owning my own businesses — not just one — practically an entire empire of businesses. My grandfather owned a business while I was growing up, I went to a college with an entrepreneurial degree, but it still took me 2 decades to even consider starting my own business. I think this is hugely in part to the fact that I lost hold of that dream – it did not seem like a possibility. No one in my family specifically pointed that out and said it was possible.

Many of us growing up here the “You can be anything you want to be” speeches, but how many of us ever have the question of what do you want to be, why  — and more importantly let’s figure out how we can make that happen for you or what you need to learn to make that come true.

Life is busy and hectic and we all have a lot going on — but if we can remove some of the clutter — physical, mental, and emotional — we have more time, energy, and attention for ourselves and the people we love. We can start listening, not just hearing. We can stop just talking, and start promoting, encouraging, and building each other up. With more time and order in our lives we can truly start finding, creating, and taking the pathways to our greater purposes.

Thanks Yogi Berra for making us laugh, but more importantly pushing us to think.
