Chaos Ensues

Holiday season is generally a fabulous time of year, but it can sometimes be rather hectic.

From traveling, house guests, creating fabulous meals, and even decorating the holidays can walk a very fine line between stress and happiness.

Chaos can quickly engulf us if we let it, but hopefully here are some tips to help you keep your cool and the happiness levels much higher than the stressful ones.

1) Make lists.

Whether it is the shopping list for dinner (ham, yams, milk, flowers, , a check list for the guest bathroom (towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc), or the packing list and itinerary for vacation.

2) Mentally prepare.

Take a few minutes to visual what you would like to happen, the worst case scenario, and that middle ground — what is most probable to happen. When we can be prepared for messes, changes in our routines, and other circumstances we can much better deal with them during and afterwards.

3) Make room for change.

Whether it is clearing out some room in the fridge for leftovers, or in the bathroom for a house guest, planning extra time in our schedules for some fun and relaxation (or better yet quiet time in a bubble bath or getting a pedicure).

“I like to encourage people to realize that any action is a good action if it’s proactive and there is positive intent behind it.

4) Spread you message.
These days just about anything can be made into a holiday decoration, especially with the help of pinterest. Need a cute way to tell the “grown up kids” to keep it down after midnight or a helpful reminder to put towels in the hamper? http://www.pinterest.com/TOPOrganizing/winter-holiday-signs/ Honestly these days just find a piece of wood, get some paint and stencils and have a party.

5) Remember to have fun.
Things will get out of place, people may get on your nerves, and there may not be any more apple pie, but it is the holidays, hopefully you are around people you love or at least get to share a good conversation with them, and there is no time like the present. So add to the pile if you must, give someone an extra hug, and try a little something new (you never know when you will fall in love with something different like with those chocolate cheesecakes!).
