According to the National Soap and Detergent Association, getting rid of clutter would eliminate 40 percent of housework in the average home. That is such a shocking statistic to not share. I mean who would not want to eliminate 40% of their household work?!!?
There are so many benefits to this!
1) The lack of household work should be enough — who doesn’t hate picking up the house, dusting, and all of the other annoying nuances that we must take care of on a daily, weekly, monthly basis in our homes. The idea is pretty simple though… the less stuff you have, the less stuff to clean, put away, rearrange, etc. Additionally, if you have a home for your items, and they regularly find their way there – then you do not have to take the time each day or week trying to get items back into their homes.
2) Which brings up a great point — TIME. If you spend 10 hours a month cleaning your home, you can regain 4 hours of that! That is an extra hour each week! That is one more coffee date, or a yoga class, an extra home cooked meal, or an episode of your family’s favorite show — EACH WEEK! It may not seem like a lot, but when you can pamper yourself in a bubble bath (or on the shooting range) instead of working through 3 stacks of papers, multiple loads of laundry, or a kitchen table you can no longer see, I am sure that will make you happy.
3) Sanity is another big key. When we get into habits that allow us to minimize clutter, maintain our things where they belong, a eliminate household work – we no longer live in the proverbial definition of insanity — Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. We do not end up stock piling our stuff, hoping it will put itself away, only to have to do it at the end of the week… and then start the process all over again on Monday.
