Your Life is Your Responsibility

Have you ever passed the buck, blamed someone else for something that happened in your life, or let something else do something that you probably should have done yourself? Don’t feel bad, we all have and do it, instead accept responsibility. By accepting responsibility we transfer accountability to ourselves. The outcomes of our situation now switches into our own hands – for all of the positive and not so positive things that happen in our lives.

  1. Know your values
  2. Establish your priorities
  3. Set Goals
  4. Accept responsibility (have versus be)
  5. Batch your time (STOP multitasking)

This week let’s talk about the… Continue reading

When Life Happens

Have you ever had some big accident just completely knock your train right off the track? Perhaps a life event that seemed impossible to bounce back from (break up, death, lost your job…)

This week we had a lawn mower accident, surgery, and a lot of relational questioning. It seemed like the world should have stopped to give me time to figure it all out, to deal with what was going on, to let me catch my breath. BUT anything but that happened.

This week is one of THOSE weeks, where you feel like every hour you get buried… Continue reading

Quit Responding

Do you ever feel like your life is out of control? You just cannot grasp ahold of anyone or anything to reign yourself back in. Constantly on the go, have no idea where anything, and always in response mode?

This type of life… the always putting out fires, letting other people’s needs dictate your schedule, and generally always being reactionary is stressful, consuming, and overall pretty unproductive.

Start taking back your life today by minimizing your reactions.

Here are some of my most favorite tips on how to take back your life, and start being proactive instead of reactive! (Stay… Continue reading

Focus

Focus is a funny thing isn’t it?

Sometimes we have no problem being tuned into something for hours… like facebook, which can be immediately gratifying and entertaining, but often leaves us feeling empty and wasteful at the end. However, when we need to turn our focus to something that will ultimately be helpful and productive in the end we are scattered brained mostly due to the idea of work.

So when you need to focus on something that does not bring you immediate satisfaction or results what are you supposed to do to stay on task?

Here are… Continue reading

Fight the overwhelm

Recently, I have talked to quite a few people lately who feel completely overwhelmed by their homes and all of their stuff.

Today, I want to give you some helpful ideas on how to start working yourself out of these problems.

  1. No Judgement
  2. 1% Changes
  3. Miniature Projects
  4. Make it Fun

1. The most important part of making any changes is to not judge yourself harshly. When we set expectations, goals, or make promises to ourselves that are completely out of our norm we need to remember to be gentle with ourselves. Work up toward achieving what we need… Continue reading

Practicing What you Preach

Practicing what you preach is NOT easy… and honestly, it may be nearly impossible to be 100% committed and successful at.

The past two weeks in the Foundations of Getting Organized Program, we have been talking a lot about values and setting priorities… Equally as much, we have talked about when these things are not aligned or if what we say and do around these things are not in alignment the negative consequences is can create in our lives.

Many times when we do not practicing what we preach, we rationalize our behaviors… which basically means we are lying to… Continue reading

Values, Vision, and Virtue

Over the last few weeks, well years really, but particularly the last few weeks, I have been putting extra time and effort into my vision, values, and virtue.

After much thought, asking and answering many questions, great self reflection and looking into the past and future I have settled on the values I feel best describe both the life I have lived and the life I want to continue living.

Making a Difference
Adventure
Knowledge
Energy
Happiness

There have been times in my life where I did not know what my values were and where I wanted to go.… Continue reading

“If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”

This week a man I greatly admire, and often quote (despite being a member of my nemesis baseball team) passed away.

Yogi Berra was a man who was very skilled in his passions of both baseball and wit.

One of the many lines I regularly quote from Yogi is “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.” Which seems silly, but ultimately that is what TOP Organizing helps with through organization. We create the time and space for families and individuals to discover their own passions. This in turns allows them… Continue reading

Big News!

T.O.P. Organizing would like to thank our wonderful followers for being so understanding in our recent absence. We have been working tremendously hard to put together a program to help families break free from the clutter and chaos cycle.

Do you know of any families who have tried over and over again to get organized… but the fixes never stick and they end up being overwhelmed by the clutter, frustrated thanks to constantly nagging their family for help, and embarrassed by the state of their home? They would probably be a great fit to check out the… Continue reading
