The Process

Goal Setting – Make it a Daily Habit

How often do you take time for goal setting? Is it an annual thing? Perhaps you do it quarterly? Monthly, weekly, daily? Where do you fall in with your goals?

Some people, like me, LOVE setting, chasing after, and accomplishing goals. Others do not enjoy anything about goals. And then there is a whole host of people in between.

So what is it that we are supposed to do with our goals? How are we supposed to set them? What do we do when we accomplish them?

Goal setting can be fun, simple, and rewarding. However, it can also be… Continue reading

Setting Up Systems

Setting up systems is by far one of the most important and best benefits of getting organized. It is especially wonderful when you have already been tracking your time. When we track our time it can be monumental. It helps to see where we are wasting time, where we can be more efficient and effective, and how setting up routines and systems can benefit us.

Often times in time tracking we tend to see patterns — good or bad — that need some addressing. The negative patterns we need to learn what creates them and how to break them.… Continue reading

I figured it out! – Daily Time Tracking Success!

As many of you have been following I am putting myself through my own time management process, and well, it is going a bit slowly because one of the most important things you need to do is track your time. I had tried multiple options for daily time tracking and came up short. Then I was gone for about 3 weeks, which always requires another week to get back into the swing of things. Alas! I believe I have figured out the way that works for me!

I have created a template for one day from 12-12 and printed it… Continue reading

Storage closet organization

Storage closet organization seems funny to talk about as an organizer. You would think that I would have absolutely no need for a storage closet. This is not the case. Of course, my closet is small, and there is a good amount of room left in it. Plus, everything in the closet has a use or purpose.

To me a storage closet is a closet specifically used for less used or accessed items. Also, it is often not in the main areas of the home. For example, my storage closet is located outside of my condo.

What is… Continue reading

Tracking Time

Sometimes practicing what you preach is easier said than done. Over the last couple weeks I have had every intention to tracking time, but I have yet to find the best way for me to do it continuously.

This gave me the brilliant idea, that if I, the organizer, can’t seem to do it, how can people a little less structured manage this seemingly simple task. Therefore, I want to share with you the ways that I tried to track my time and some ideas I have moving forward. Hopefully, you’ll be able to take some of those ideas… Continue reading

Where does the time go?

As we talked about last week, far too many people are wondering what happened to their days. Where did it go? How do they get back more time, etc. There are some great ways to start recognizing what is the problem with time management.

We all only have a finite amount of time. We each are given the same 24 hours each day. How is it that some people can accomplish so much more? And some people are running around their their heads cut off and never get anything accomplished? So how do some people have such good time… Continue reading

Earn Back Time

Do you ever find yourself wishing for more time in a day? How about wondering where the day went? Or how are you supposed to be able to get everything on your to-do list accomplished? Wishing the feeling of overwhelm would go away already? Do not worry you are not alone! These are some of the most popular feelings I hear on a regular basis from clients and friends alike. I regularly get asked how do you do all of that? Do you ever sleep? How do you have so much energy?

Strategically eliminate overwhelm.

Own your time… Continue reading

Bathroom Organization

I have a confession to make… This week I was having my carpets cleaned, and much like most people I felt compelled to run around my house like a crazy person cleaning before they got here. Some how this turned into organizing my bathroom (well mostly linen closet), too. Of course, because I did this in such a hurried, unplanned fashion, I do not have a video or before pictures to show you. I will however let you know what I did. I personally like doing bathroom organization because they are pretty quick and usually… USUALLY… there is not too… Continue reading

Book Organization

According to Marie Kundo, Book Organization should come next in this process. For such an avid reader (at least recently, can’t say the same for my earlier years) I have a relatively small book collection. This is mainly in part, like most of my things, to having move A LOT!!

When you move every year, you learn to let go of a lot of things. Books are generally the easiest because they are so heavy and difficult to move.

When it comes to books, just like clothing you want to take everything from its current residing place. In Marie’s eyes… Continue reading

Clothes Organization

Part Two of the Organization Process is to start with Clothes Organization.

For some this is a quick and easy process. For others this may seem daunting and nearly impossible. Have no fear there is actually a very easy way to do this, so that it does not seem overwhelming to you.

Depending on the amount of clothing you have, how dispersed they all are, your willingness to make a quick and final decision many of you will need to plan ahead for somewhere between 5-10 hours. This is in part because you have not yet honed your… Continue reading
